Pauline K. Cunningham passed away Nov. 21. She was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Aug. 27, 1926, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline Novak.
She graduated from Roslindale High in 1943 and received an A.B. degree from Northeastern University in 1946. She was awarded her Masters in Education from Salem State College in 1963.
Mrs. Cunningham spent over 35 years in the field of education in grades 3-8 as classroom teacher, head teacher, assistant principal, and audio director. The 22 years prior to her retirement were spent at the Proctor School in Topsfield, Mass., where her areas of expertise were language arts and creative writing. During a sabbatical she compiled a book of creative writing ideas, Write On!
After retirement, she moved to Jefferson where she became active in a number of organizations: The Lincoln County Retired Teacher’s Association, Jefferson Woman’s Club, Jefferson Historical Society, Willow Grange 366, Jefferson Extension, and First Baptist Ladies Aid. She was also the substitute teacher in School Union 51.
After the death of her husband, Lawrence E. Cunningham, in 1994, Mrs. Cunningham returned to Groveland, Mass. where she was living at the time of her death.
She leaves two sons, Lawrence E. Jr. of Ware, Mass., and Glen of Milton, Mass.; one deceased son, Lloyd, formerly of Wilton, N.H.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Richard W. Novak of Jacksonville, Ala., and Henry P. Novak of Quincy, Mass.; and two deceased brothers, Nicholas and Edward.
Graveside service was held at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson on Nov. 28.
