Peter D. Murphy, 69, of Friendship, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 18, 2024 surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Rockland, Aug. 8, 1954, he was the son of Gordon W. and Joan M. Lash Murphy.
Peter started lobstering as a young man and spent most of his life on the water. He was highly respected by the younger guys on the wharf due to his years of knowledge and experience. He was a hard worker and always took care of his family. If he wasn’t taking care of his family, he was taking care of others, quietly buying groceries for people in need, or doing whatever needed to be done. His family said he would give the shirt off his back.
In 2002 he married the love of his life, Debora Dorr. Together they have made their home in Friendship.
Peter had a special way of making people laugh and was quite humorous, in his own way. His right-hand buddy was his golden retriever, Cooper. He loved spending time with his family, especially vacationing in warmer climates.
Predeceased by his parents; Peter is survived by his wife of 22 years, Debora Murphy; his daughter, Heather Murphy, of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Judy McNaughton and her husband, Adam, of Jefferson, Amy Willett, of Portland; a stepson, Wilfred Hendron and his husband, Siul Hendron, of Miami, Fla.; his siblings, Joy Sanblom and her husband, Rick, Jonathan Murphy and his wife, Julie, all of Friendship, Karl Murphy and his wife, April, of Cushing; his grandchildren, Julia Murphy and Ivan Murphy, Victoria Perry, Liam McNaughton, Robbie Colpritt; as well as many nieces, nephews; and a large loving extended family.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., in Rockland. The Rev. Alan Chamberlain and Jon Vermilion will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Maine Lobsterman’s Association, 2 Storer St., Suite 203 Kennebunk, ME 04043.
