Philip Lincoln Slayton, 85, of Boothbay Harbor, died March 17.
Phil will always be known by family and friends as a man of great character and courage.
Never a complainer, except when watching his beloved Red Sox, he took on life’s challenges with humility, humor, and an ever positive spirit. As a devoted husband of 60 years and supporting father to four boys, he led courageously by example. Phil is a Bowdoin College grad who interrupted his studies to serve in WWII where he developed a strong sense of duty and responsibility. After serving his country, he then set out to serve his family by balancing a long and successful career with one company (rare these days!) with the responsibilities of being a dedicated husband and great role model to his sons. After his “formal” career, he settled into the community of Boothbay Harbor and continued to enjoy his summers at Ocean Point. He served on the boards of the YMCA and the Boothbay Region Land Trust.
Phil is survived by his wife Jean (“Meme”); sons, Richard, Roger, Jeffrey, Robert and their wives; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Fri., March 20 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor. A private family committal will take place in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Boothbay Harbor Land Trust, P.O. Box 183, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; Boothbay Region YMCA, P.O. Box 500 Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; or to St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 33 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
