Phillip C. Willey, 83, of Wiscasset, died June 18 at a local hospital.
He was born in Augusta on May 26, 1926, the son of Charles Leroy and Lili Stackhouse Willey. He attended local schools and enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy at the age 17. During his career in the Navy he made 22 trips across the North Atlantic and spent one year in the Philippines.
On Jan. 26, 1948 he married Eleanor Ruth Jewett in Bath. Phillip lived on Sawyers Island in Boothbay for 48 years until his wife’s death in 1996, at which time he moved to Wiscasset. He worked at the Bath Iron Works as an Assistant Foreman in the Electric Maintenance Department, retiring in 1988 with 37 years of service.
In his spare time he enjoyed lobster fishing part-time while on Sawyers Island, hauling up to 100 traps. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, working around the house and spending time on the water.
He was predeceased by his wife on Oct. 9, 1996.
He is survived by two brothers, Charles L. Willey of Richmond and Robert C. Willey of Topsham, and several nieces and nephews.
At his request all services will be private.
