Phillip Gale Vollmer, of Dresden, previously of Topsham and Whitefield, died on Aug. 1.
He was born in New York City in 1928. He grew up in Connecticut and attended the Kent School for Boys in Kent, Conn. He was briefly involved in the electronics industry before he launched his career in chainsaws. He worked for Stihl Inc., where he was director of technical service.
He retired to Maine, where he met and married Betty Boughton Parsons in 1992. He worked with the Wiscasset schools and volunteered at Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick.
Phillip was predeceased by his previous wife, Susan S. Thompson, and his sister, Joan Dolan.
He is survived by his wife, Betty B. Vollmer of Dresden; sons, Scott H. Vollmer of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark M. Vollmer of Brisbane, Australia; daughters, Karen E. Vollmer of Sand Point, Ida., Nancy V. Wood of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dorothy G. Thow of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepsons, Donald Cowing of Georgetown, David Cowing of Woolwich and Dan Cowing of Dresden; stepdaughters, Pamela Freeman of Wiscasset, and Beth Cowing Sawyer of Topsham; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
