Phillip K. Peters, 33, of Boothbay, died suddenly March 5 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Mr. Peters was born in Boothbay Harbor on Sept. 12, 1974, the son of Leo Peters and Elizabeth Riplese Peters.
He attended Boothbay schools, graduating from Boothbay Region High School. While in high school he swam on the swim team, played soccer and was a wrestler.
Phillip married Tara Freeman of Camden on Sept. 26, 2003.
Phillip’s love of the sea ultimately drew him into the lobstering and fishing profession.
He owned the fishing boat the “Eleana’s Comet”, named after his niece. He could be seen out tending his traps with his beloved dog, Pirate, with him. When he wasn t fishing or lobstering for himself, he worked for many other fishermen.
Phillip’s friends say that he never met a stranger. If he met someone new, in three seconds they were friends. They were all impressed by his smile and friendly personality. He especially loved children and one of the highlights of his life was when his son River was born.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Irene and Cy Peters and his maternal grandparents, Peter and Helen Riplese.
Survivors include his wife Tara Peters and his son River Wyatt Peters; father, Leo Peters of Boothbay Harbor; mother, Elizabeth Peters of Boothbay Harbor; sisters, Catherine Laweryson and husband Gary of Jefferson and Theresa Peters of Boothbay; brothers, Michael Peters of Boothbay and Daniel Peters of Damariscotta; half sisters and half brothers, Elaine Dawson and Robert and Bryce Dawson of Spring City, Tenn., Erin Hill, Nick Hill and Mason Reid, all of Fla.; five nieces and nephews Gabriel, Lindsay, and Emily Laweryson, all of Jefferson, and Eleana and Carmen Peters of Boothbay.
A celebration held March 11 at the American Legion Hall in Boothbay. Alfred Roberts officiated. A reception followed the service and then a boat parade in his memory.
