Phyllis Adele Simpson Zucchi, 89, of Waldoboro, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 30 with her family at her side. She was born June 20, 1923 in Providence, R.I. and was the only child of James and Florence Evans Simpson.
Phyllis graduated from Lockwood High School in Warwick, R.I., Bryant College and the University of Maine. She was a teacher for many years in Tenant’s Harbor. She was married to William Zucchi for 36 years.
Bill and Phyllis moved to Waldoboro in 1948 where they raised three daughters.
Phyllis loved to play word and card games. Her many bridge friends played with her up until just before she died. She also loved to play Scrabble or any other word game.
Phyllis is survived by daughters, Adele Zucchi Ames and husband David of Northport, Barbara Zucchi and husband Donald Johnston of Jefferson, and Carol Zucchi and husband Carl Gushee of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Pamela Veilleux and husband Leo of Manchester, N.H., Deborah Tukey and husband Dave of Gorham, Darcy Johnston and husband John Collins of Searsmont, Erika Johnston and husband Jason Rich of Waldoboro, Will Gushee and partner Darcy Forrest of Tucson, Ariz., and Emily McDermott and husband Joe of Fort Kent; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Alyson Veilleux of Manchester, N.H., Blake Brown of Windham, Anthony Dugan and Alex Tukey of Gorham, Elliot and Azalea Rich of Waldoboro, Stella Collins of Searsmont, and Zappa McDermott of Fort Kent; nieces, Jean Hagan of Warwick, R.I., and Letty Jo Worrick of Aurora, Col.; and nephews, Jonathan Zucchi of Narragansett, R.I., and Timothy Zucchi of Coventry, R.I.
Celebration of life for Phyllis 2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 15 at the Methodist Church on Friendship St. in Waldoboro with Pastor Jen Curran presiding.
