Phyllis Grace Martineau, 88, of Newcastle, entered into rest on July 14, after a prolonged illness at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Her loving family surrounded her as she slipped away peacefully.
For 30 years, Phyllis was the shining star at her daughter’s Sea Gull Shop on Pemaquid Point. She was loved by many, and known to all as Nana. She was the second of nine children born to Beatrice and Herman Jamer of New Brunswick.
Nana was the matriarch of an extended family. She leaves behind her three daughters, Suzie Barton of Newcastle, whom she lived with, Judy and husband, Craig Wogan of Newcastle, and eldest daughter, Paula Houghton of Pemaquid Point; as well as eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren ranging in ages from 45 years to a one year old. An “adopted” son, known as number four, also resides in Newcastle.
Public service and celebration of Nana’s life 4-6 p.m., Sat., July 18 at The Sea Gull Shop next to the lighthouse on Pemaquid Point. Ceremony will be at 5 p.m., followed by a private family celebration.
