Phyllis Lorraine Feltis, 68, of Pemaquid, passed away Feb. 11 surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with ALS, (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
The daughter of Gordon E. Blank, and Rita (Hayes) Blank, she was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Needham, Mass. She married Clayton Lee Feltis on May 19, 1960, a marriage that would last for 48 years, until his passing in April of 2008.
Phyllis was a school bus driver for the town of Bristol for 23 years. She and her husband were also independent bus contractors for 15 years, transporting Lincoln Academy as well as Bristol students. This was a job she truly enjoyed. She went on to cook for both Shaw’s Wharf in New Harbor and Reunion Station in Damariscotta.
Phyllis’ passion was family. She was at her happiest when her entire family was at her side, be it cooking for 30 at Thanksgiving, or simply sharing coffee and conversation on a weekend. Phyllis enjoyed her many trips south with her close friend Stephanie Clifford of Bristol.
Surviving are her father of Pemaquid; brother, Gordon E. “Buddy” Blank and wife Lynne and their family of New Harbor; six sons, Tim and wife Danielle of New Harbor, Chris and wife Brenda of Bristol, Dale and wife Sharlene of Bristol, Shawn and wife April of Nobleboro, Kevin and wife Mia of Pemaquid, and Michael and wife Julie of Wiscasset; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; as well as countless friends.
Service to honor her life 10 a.m., Fri., Feb. 20, at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. After the service there will be a gathering for friends and family at Reunion Station restaurant. Phyllis will be laid to rest along side her husband at the New Harbor Cemetery in the spring.
