Phyllis (Pat) Kennedy Urbanek entered into eternal rest on the evening of Oct. 3 at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta surrounded by her family.
Born Phyllis Marie Kennedy in Damariscotta, on Feb. 26, 1928, she was the daughter of Thomas A. and Doris Cox Kennedy.
She was a graduate of Lincoln Academy and of the Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing. She is a former member of the Penney Memorial Church in Augusta and has been a member of the Old South Church in Belgrade since 1957. She has been a Registered Nurse since 1949, relinquishing her license to inactive status in 1994.
She was married to Dan M. Urbanek in 1950 and they enjoyed 45 years together before his death in 1995.
Although she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and her gardens, her greatest joy was teaching and guiding her offspring through their various degrees. She was a gracious and giving person and touched many lives with her wonderful knowledge and ability to teach.
She is survived by her younger sister, Charlotte Kirkpatrick of Woolwich; elder son, Matthew Dan Urbanek and wife Loretta of Kernersville, N.C.; daughter, Charlotte Lee Urbanek of Belgrade; younger son, Michael F. Urbanek and wife Linda of Jeffersonton, Va.; granddaughters, Kaia Lynn Urbanek, Kara Ann Lee, Michelle Lee Urbanek, and Tina Marie Hernandez; step-grandsons, Jon and Chris Bradshaw; and great-grandson, Dylan Chamberlain; and former daughters-in-law, Catherine Urbanek and Susan Urbanek .
Her dearest treasures were her two Siamese cats, Beau Geste and d’Artagnan, who were loving companions and a source of great comfort to her.
There will be a memorial service at the Old South Church in Belgrade at 2 p.m., Fri., Oct. 11 to be followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army and local pet shelters.
Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
