Polly Lauder Tunney, 100, of Greenwich, Conn. and South Bristol, died April 12 at her North Stamford, Conn. home after a stroke. She also had a summer residence on John’s Island in South Bristol.
Mary “Polly” Lauder was born April 24, 1907 to George Lauder, Jr. and Katherine Rowland.
Tunney, an heiress to the Carnegie Steel Co. fortune, married heavyweight boxing champion Gene Tunney in 1928 in Rome when she was 21.
She was predeceased by her husband Gene Tunney in 1978.
Survivors include sons Jonathan R. “Jay” Tunney of Roxbury, Conn., John V. Tunney of Los Angeles, Cal. and New York, and Gene L. Tunney of Honolulu, Hawaii; and daughter, Joan Cook of Arkansas.
Services will be private.
The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr St., Fairfield, CT 06842.
