Priscilla D. Reed, 79, of Newcastle, passed away Nov. 10, surrounded by her loving family at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick. She was born Aug. 30, 1930 in Machias, a daughter of Herbert and Alberta Hatt. She was one of 13 children.
She grew up and attended local schools in Machias. She moved to Boothbay Harbor and married Stanley G. Reed. She was a homemaker. She was well known as “Mother Goose” on her C.B. radio. She was an avid bingo player and played all over the midcoast region. She was an avid supporter of paralyzed veterans and made many lap quilts for the veterans.
She was a very thoughtful, caring, and giving person who always put other people’s needs first. She was an avid basketball fan, and was awarded, “Fan of the Year” at Wiscasset High School in 2007. She supported both the boys’ and girls’ teams wherever they played. She used to love going to Augusta to watch the state basketball tournament games.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Stanley G. Reed; several siblings; and great-grandsons, Jesse Williams and Ethan Kole Ketchum.
She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Phillip “Rusty” McGuire of Newcastle; his children, Sheena, Steve and Shawn; sons, Randy Reed and wife Jeanette of Wiscasset, and Bradford Reed and wife Roberta of Boothbay; daughter, Winifred Roussel and husband Ronald of Hudson, N.H.; sister, Edith Smith and husband Roland of Machias; grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda, Julie, Linda, Rebecca, Connie, Lt. Col. Robert Ronald Roussel, and Michele; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held.
