Priscilla Erskine Chadwick Jones, 95, passed away peacefully at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta on Aug. 27 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on Dec. 15, 1917 at the family home in Damariscotta, the daughter of the late Wallace and Martha Frances Gardner Chadwick.
Growing up in the Damariscotta, she attended local schools before moving to the Gardiner area at age 14. With her move to Gardiner she attended and graduated from Gardiner High School with the class of 1937. After high school she went on to study at the Kennebec School of Commerce.
Joining the work force her career began at Gardiner Shoe in Gardiner. It was here she met a young reporter from the Kennebec Journal Stan Jones, who later became her husband. After marrying, the couple settled in Portland. While in Portland she worked as a Licensed Realtor’s Broker for Cook, Everett & Pennell Wholesale Drug Co. She rounded out her career by working for the State of Maine.
Her hobbies included poetry, gardening, sewing, and painting. She enjoyed swimming, golf, tennis and bowling. For many years she was a member of the Augusta Country Club and “The Happy Hookers,” an ACC Bowling League
One of her greatest joys in life was being able to spend time with her family. There were family gatherings at the house for holidays, trips to the beach, and many practical jokes organized by her and her sons on unsuspecting aunts and uncles. She was the pillar of the family and helped out all that she could whenever she could.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Stanley Jones; sisters, Barbara, Virginia, Olivia, and Louise Chadwick and Helen Skelton; and brother, Wallace Chadwick.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey A. Jones of Brewer, and Wilton S. Jones and wife Judith of Newcastle; grandchildren, Timothy G. Jones and wife Emily of Falls Church, Va., and Elizabeth A. Jones Richardson and husband Scott of Ottobrunn, Germany; great-grandsons, Zachary, Kyle, and Ethan Jones, and Noah and Jonah Richardson; brother, Jason H. Chadwick and wife Patricia of Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; as well as many nieces, and nephews.
A private family service will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
