Priscilla Nettie Bryer, of Boothbay, died in Boothbay on Oct. 22.
She was born in Boothbay on Aug. 15,1926, the daughter of Lermond and Avis Doughty Giles. She grew up in Boothbay and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School.
Her early work years included defense work at local shipyards, followed by employment at G. E. Company in Lynn, Mass. She also worked for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services at McKown Point for nearly 20 years, becoming assistant administratrix. She then started her own tax business, which she operated until her death, while simultaneously working for Blenn Perkins as a tax consultant for many years. The last few years she worked seasonally for Rocktide.
Priscilla was a longtime and present member of the Pythian Sisters for over 40 years and was also very active in civic affairs. She was a past tax assessor for the Town of Boothbay and a present trustee for the Boothbay Region Cemetery District, at one time serving as president. She was a present and longtime member of the Boothbay Region Historical Society. She was an ardent supporter of Disabled American Veterans and other charitable veterans’ organizations.
Priscilla enjoyed working with antiques, collectibles, crafts, and sewing, and enjoyed yard sales as well. She loved poetry and collected many books on the subject.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon R. Bryer; son, Donald G. Bryer; her parents; sisters, Phyllis Poole, Pauline Wylie, and Leta Bryer; and brother, Lenwood Giles.
She is survived by stepson, Gordon Bryer, Jr. and companion Jackie Lemieux of Walpole; sons, Frank Colby and companion Patricia Gatto of Boothbay, Daniel Bryer and companion Deborah Wickert of Dresden; daughter, Shani Bryer and companion John Arnes of Boothbay; brother, George Giles of Boothbay; sisters, Julia Holmes, Jean Cunningham, and Judith Owen, all of Boothbay; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and an uncle.
Visitation 2-4 and 6-8, Wed., Oct. 25 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
Funeral service 2 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 26 at the Funeral Home, with Al Roberts officiating. Burial and committal service will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
