Ralph Charles Damon, 92, of Pittston, passed away on July 22 at the Maine Veterans Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Greenville, Aug. 13, 1923 to Ernest and Orpha Damon.
Ralph was educated in Whitefield schools before being drafted into the Army in 1942. While on tour in Europe, Ralph was captured and became a POW. Upon finishing his service, Ralph spent 30 years at Edwards Manufacturing Company in Augusta. His other notable job in later years was being a caretaker in South Bristol as well as helping with operations of Bakers Smelt Camps.
Ralph was a loving father to many, a husband to a fortunate few, and a great friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His sharp mind made way for amazing tales and lengthy jokes. A few of his hobbies included gardening, road trips, trips to camp up to Caratunk, cribbage, cruising around on his golf cart, and loving his golden retrievers.
Ralph is predeceased by brother, John; and sisters, Joyce and Phyllis; and wife, Verna Damon.
Ralph is survived by brother, Ellsworth Damon; children, Jim Damon, Maureen Holt, Bruce Erickson, Sandra Fortes, John Hall, Rich Potter, and Steve Potter; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Ralph’s birthday Sat., Aug. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Smithtown Marina & Campground in Pittston immediately followed by a potluck dinner.
