Ralph Herman Hoffses, of Waldoboro, passed away on July 13 at the Wiscasset Green. He was born at home on April 23, 1919 in Back Cove South Waldoboro, to the late Isaac Herman Hoffses and Arminda Ellen Spear.
He married Gertrude Pearl Haynes in September of 1940 in Rockland and they were married for 71 years. They enjoyed traveling and saw every state in the U.S.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waldoboro and was a life member of the American Legion Charles C. Lilly Post 149, Waldoboro. He was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Navy stationed in North Africa, and was a member of the Masons, King Solomon Lodge #61 Waldoboro.
He worked many years at the Togus VA Center in Augusta and also was a bookkeeper for Moody’s Diner for over 40 years. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1938.
He was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters, Irvin E. Hoffses, Clarinda C. Hoffses, Calvin N. Hoffses, Adeline F. Hunt, Bernice M. Gray, Olin S. Hoffses, Delia G. Hysom, Elmer F. Hoffses, Elton I. Hoffses, and Donald G. Hoffses.
He is survived by children, Richard Allan Hoffses and partner Charles Paul Howe, Norma Evelyn Dodge and husband Kenneth M. Dodge Jr., Russell Isaac Hoffses and wife Sharon Hoffses, and Keith Irvin Hoffses; grandchildren, Andrew Dodge, Matthew Dodge and wife Janette, Jody Hoffses, Isaac Hoffses and wife Theresa, Amy Hoffses, Laura Hoffses, and Amanda Hoffses; great-grandchildren, Courtney Dodge, William Dodge, Emily Hoffses, and Jack Hoffses; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thurs., July 17 at the Broad Bay Congregational Church, 941 Main St., Waldoboro. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., July 18 at the Waldoboro First Baptist Church, 71 Grace Ave., Waldoboro, with Rev. Foster Williams officiating.
