Raydelle Barlow Stover, 81, of Boothbay, died May 5 at Boothbay Green in Boothbay. She was born July 17, 1928 in Boothbay Harbor, a daughter of Richard and Mildred Joyce Barlow. Raydelle grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated in the class of 1946 from Boothbay Harbor High School.
She worked at many local restaurants including Fisherman’s Wharf, Jessie’s Diner, Marriner’s Grill and Bayville Inn for her aunt Jesse Roberts. After she raised her children she went back to school and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a BS degree in education. She started teaching in 1975 and taught until she retired in 1993. She primarily taught 5th grade and also taught 6th grade as well. She started at the Boothbay Center School and finished at the Boothbay Region Elementary School. She made a difference in many kids’ lives through her teaching and as a mother figure as well. She deeply cared for all of her students.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, making homemade doughnuts and according to her daughter Holly, she made delicious pies. Reading was another hobby that she enjoyed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Manley E. Stover Sr. who died in 1993; parents; son, Ainsley Stover; brothers, Arthur Barlow, Wendell Barlow, Earle “Mickey” Barlow and Merton Barlow; and sister, Jane Campbell.
She is survived daughters, Monona Watts and husband Robert of Boothbay Harbor and Holly Stover and husband Eddie Reed of Boothbay; sons, Gene Stover and wife Lorna of Hershey, Penn. and Daniel Stover and wife Karen of Dunnellon, Fla.; sister, Joyce Durfee of Boothbay Harbor; brothers, Richard Barlow of Swansboro, N.C. and Gerry Barlow of Boothbay; grandchildren, Rob Watts and wife Sara of Southport and Joshua Stover and companion Jamie Sprague Boothbay Harbor; step-granddaughter, Kimberly Reed of Boothbay Harbor; great-granddaughter, Ella Watts of Southport; aunt, Florence Haggett of Boothbay Harbor; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Raydelle’s life 2 p.m., Sun., May 16 at the Town Hall building at the Railway Museum in Boothbay.
