Raymond A. Dalton Jr., 82, of Wiscasset, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19 at the Togus Hospice House with close family at his side.
He was born in Wiscasset on Oct. 13, 1929, a son of Raymond A. and Helen Louise (Jones) Dalton. He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1947. He entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. On Oct. 2, 1955, he married Martha Reay Stevens.
He had been a member of the American Legion and Wiscasset Fire Department and also served as the town building inspector for several years.
He was employed as a cabinet maker at Wiscasset Lumber for many years and later Bath Lumber. After retirement and until recently he continued to handcraft beautiful pieces of furniture that many people in the family and local community enjoy in their homes today.
He was honored earlier this year at the Boy Scouts Blue and Gold banquet as being one of the seven remaining members of the 1941 Boy Scout troop. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and looked forward to his annual Thanksgiving weekend at camp. He loved to read and enjoyed using his new Kindle.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Stanley Dalton, Theodore Dalton and Gerald Dalton.
He is survived by wife, Martha Dalton of Wiscasset; son, Raymond A. Dalton III and wife Karen of Wiscasset; daughters, Theresa J. Archer and her husband Bernard of Burke, Va., and Paula R. Dalton-Gove and husband John of Portland; sister, Joan Legg and husband Norman of Wiscasset; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 29, at Sheepscot Cemetery in Sheepscot. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Parish Hall of St. Philips Episcopal Church, Hodge St., Wiscasset.
