Raymond Forrest Flagg, Jr., 80, of Jefferson, died May 11 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta. He was born March 19, 1928 in Rockland, a son of Raymond F. Flagg, Sr. and Ella Keene Flagg. He grew up in Rockland, Calais, and Gardiner. He graduated from Gardiner High School in the class of 1946. He later graduated from Gorham State Teachers College in 1950. He married Marilyn “Peggy” Taylor Flagg on Aug. 19, 1950.
Raymond and Peggy lived in Lincoln and later Jefferson where they made their home for the last 57 years. He was an Industrial Arts and Horticulture teacher in Lincoln, Gardiner and at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro. He taught for over 39 years and retired in 1990. He was an American Baptist interim pastor serving in several local churches. While teaching he pastored at the Washington Baptist Church.
He was a past master of the Willow Grange, past master of Riverside Masonic Lodge AF & AM #135 in Jefferson, worthy patron of Lakeview Chapter OES, and a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson where he served in many capacities over the years. He was a published author. He was also a member of the Jefferson school board. He enjoyed farming and was an avid gardener.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Clifton Bond.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn “Peggy” Flagg of Jefferson; daughters, Linda LaCasce and husband Donald of Solon, Delia Lufkin and husband William of Warren, Patricia Goodspeed and husband Perry of Jefferson, and Candace Marie Flagg of Jefferson; son, Robert Taylor Flagg of Jefferson; ten grandchildren, Amy McDougal and husband Cory of Solon, Eileen Foley and husband Bryan of New Bedford, Mass., Beverly LaCasce of Solon, Marjory LaCasce of Solon, Dawn Andrick and husband Curt of Warren, Melissa Lufkin of Warren, Sarah McClean and husband Ashton of Warren, Raymond Forrest Flagg III of Jefferson, Joseph A. Flagg of Jefferson, and Nicole Barbour and husband Daniel of Warren; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon, and Kyle Foley, all of New Bedford, Mass., Ryan and Nathan Andrick, both of Warren, Grace McClean of Warren, and Kaydence Barbour of Warren; niece, Caroline Bond-Russano and husband Joseph of Jefferson; nephew, S. Richardson Bond and wife Lisa of Jefferson; grand nephews, Marcus Russano and Sam Bond, both of Jefferson, and special friends, Stacy Brann, Terry Huffman and Lisa Spydell, all of Jefferson.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Wed., May 14 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Funeral 2 p.m., Thurs., May 15 at the Jefferson First Baptist Church. Pastor Timothy Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson.
