Raymond E. Hunt, of Jefferson, passed away on July 3 at Maine Medical Center. Born April 18, 1954, Raymond was the son of Eldon and Beryl (Hodgkins) Hunt.
Raymond attended Lincoln Academy, class of 1973, where he was a varsity athlete. Raymond worked in the family business of Hunt Brothers Lumber in many capacities and went on to have his own business, Just, Inc., for 25 years. Most recently, he worked for the State of Maine Department of Transportation out of the Edgecomb plant.
Raymond loved the country life; he adored tending his garden and working in the woods. An avid hunter, he enjoyed ice-fishing and was a master brewer of the famous Ranger Ridge Ripple. Raymond (affectionately known as “Big Foot”) was the memorable host of many momentous gatherings. He was member of the Bunker Hill Grange and lifetime member of the Jefferson Historical Society. An incredibly hard working man, he touched many lives. Raymond was a sincere friend to all; he is remembered as a beloved brother, outstanding father and remarkable husband.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cynthia J. (Fossett) Hunt; daughter, Stacy Lash of Jefferson; son, Justin of New York, N.Y.; his beloved Hunt Rangers (including Ace, Professor, Junior, Abe, Little Ranger, Ranger 28, Moon Dawg, and others); and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may pay their respects 5-7 p.m., Mon., July 7 at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Celebration of his life 11 a.m., Tues., July 8 at the Bunker Hill Church with the Reverend Tom Potter officiating. A reception will follow at the Bunker Hill Ladies Aid Hall. Burial will be private.
