Raymond Melvin Kennedy, 84, passed away peacefully at Quarry Hill in Camden on Jan. 1 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on March 11, 1929 in Waldoboro, one of nine children of Guy and Mildred Creamer Kennedy. Growing up in Waldoboro, he attended local schools there. He later attended schools at SMVTI in Portland and also General Motors Training in Dedham, Mass.
He worked at Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet as a mechanic for 20 years. He worked 26 years as Transportation Supervisor for SAD #40 School District, during his time there he was awarded bus driver of the year in 1998. His skills were not only in the automotive field but he also graduated from the Police Academy in 1981 and served as a reserve police officer for the town of Waldoboro for 24 years.
In his downtime he enjoyed staying at his cottage on Damariscotta Lake. His favorite thing to do was restoring antique cars. There didn’t seem to be one that he couldn’t fix. He was affiliated with the Orff’s Corner Community Church since their reopening. He was a very active and well-known member of the church community.
Ray was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Josephine Kennedy and seven siblings.
He is survived by sister, Violet Pendexter and husband Alfred Pendexter of Groton, Conn.; daughters, Brenda Dever and husband Roger of Waldoboro, and Sandra Ball and husband Robert of Bristol; grandchildren Jamie Dever of Waldoboro, Erica Stevens and husband Casey of Newcastle, and Katie Jones of Boston, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Trever, Elle, Emme, Nelsen, and Braelyne Stevens and Logan Dever; sisters-in-law, Eva McClain, Ruth Higgins, Winnie Johnson and Dotty Goff and husband Richard; and many nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Sat., Jan. 4 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Sun., Jan. 5 at the Orff’s Corner Community Church, Rt. 32, North Waldoboro with Pastor Bob Bellows officiating. Burial will take place at Orff’s Corner Cemetery in the spring.
