Surrounded by family and friends, Becky Winfield, 53, of Topsham, passed away peacefully at her home on the afternoon of May 22.
The day started like most springtime days in Maine; birds singing, an early morning mist, and the sun peaking through the clouds. Her brave and courageous battle with cancer had taught us all, that rain or shine, it was a beautiful day. She is at peace now, without pain and with us in spirit as our guardian angel.
Becky was born on March 7, 1961 in Jacksonville, Fla. to Willis and Sara Nichols. She was the second to the youngest of her three brothers; Terry, Todd and Randy (13 minutes older than her twin brother Randy).
As the daughter of a Navy family, she traveled and was stationed on the east coast as she grew up through her teen years, eventually settling in Wiscasset upon her father’s retirement from naval service.
She attended and graduated from Morse High School in Bath. Soon after graduation she married Michael Moody, with whom she had two children; Mike and Amy. After the tragic loss of her first husband in a car accident, she was married to Brian Preney (divorced) and eventually met (in 2003) and married Rob Winfield in 2006, the love of her life.
Becky was employed at Bath Iron Works for over 27 years, working in Local 7, BMDA, planning yard, procurement/purchasing and after market sales.
She loved life and those that knew her will surely remember her beautiful smile, positive attitude and a laugh that would bring a smile to your face. Her genuine beauty and radiance could be seen and felt the minute you met her.
She loved her husband Rob, children, grandchildren, family, friends, and dogs. She loved Maine summers, family gatherings, seafood, flowers, birds, her garden, yard sales, shopping and “bargains.” She was an active and passionate board member of Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue for the last 10 years.
Becky was predeceased by father, Willis Nichols; half-brother, Mark Nichols; first husband, Mike Moody; and niece, Jessica Nichols.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rob; mother, Sara J. Nichols of Wiscasset; son, Michael Moody and wife Ashley of Topsham; daughter, Amy Corontzes and husband Matthew of Clemson, S.C.; stepson, Arthur Winfield and wife Jess of McKinney, Tex.; brothers, Terry Nichols and wife Carla of Waldoboro, Todd Nichols and wife Elaine of Westport Island, and Randy Nichols and wife Karen of Wiscasset; niece, Megan Nichols; nephews, Tyler, Kirby, Troy and Brandon Nichols; six grandchildren, Madison and Parker Moody, Kingston Winfield, Alexis, Adelyn and soon to be Robert Beck Corontzes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue, 9 Lady Slipper Lane, Topsham, ME 04086, Paypal: www.coastalmainegreatdanerescue.com.
Thoughts, wishes, stories or pictures that you would like to share can be sent to email RememberBeckysSmile@gmail.com that will be turned into a special book for the family.
At the request of Becky and Rob, there will not be a funeral service. There will be a celebration of life for Becky 1-6 p.m., Sat., May 31 at her home/yard, 4 Homeplace, Topsham. There will be food, beverages, music, family and friends there to reflect on all good memories of Becky. She truly wanted this to be a joyous occasion for smiles and laughter.
As Becks started her (our) journey with her fight against cancer, we started with hearts (passion for life). Over the past two years we have found and received hearts from many who joined the fight and ask that you bring a heart to the celebration that shows the love we share with this magnificent woman’s life.
There will be a scattering of ashes for close family and friends on Sun., June 1.
