Rebecca Stevens (Becky to her friends) died Feb. 24 after a long battle with a progressive illness. While the last stretch was difficult, she never gave up and tenaciously fought till the end – as she did with every obstacle she faced in her rich life.
Whether she was battling for civil rights or nuclear disarmament, enriching elementary children or special needs young adults, digging in her beloved gardens or forging new relationships, Becky was equal parts sweet and stubborn, both genteel and fiery. Her Southern roots, unforgettable smile and natural chattiness made everyone feel welcome – not to mention her love of a particular shade of teal clothing and accessories.
A longtime resident of Waldoboro and beloved teacher at both Miller School and A.D. Gray Middle School, she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the good fortune of crossing her path.
She is survived by two sisters; five grandchildren; and three children, Sean, Amy and Katy.
A private memorial service will be held this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to CurePSP (http://www.psp.org/) to help fund awareness, care and cure for the condition that cut her life too short.
