Reginald Dana Achorn, 65, passed away on June 21 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born Feb. 16, 1948 in Rockland, son of the late David A. Achorn Sr. and the late Evelyn Wotton Heyer. He grew up in Waldoboro and lived there most of his life.
A jack-of-all-trades, he had a variety of occupations, from delivering oil to clamming to repairing cars and trucks to demolition work to driving 18-wheelers to self-employment as a saw mill owner and over-the-road owner-operator of his own truck. He had a knack for fixing things, and many people would call on him to help fix their cars, tractors, or anything mechanical. He also had a knack for building and repairing things, from building a couple of his own homes and expanding his residence, to siding and roofing jobs for others. His hobbies included hunting, tinkering, listening to old country music, and socializing with friends. He also enjoyed his garden, which each year got a little bigger than the last. He had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, and loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by his companion of 11 years, Viola Stone of Waldoboro; daughter, Carole Haley of Milwaukee, Wis.; son, Melvin Achorn of Camden; brothers, Gerald Achorn of Waldoboro, Randall Achorn Sr. and wife Joan of Waldoboro, and David Achorn Jr. of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wed., June 26 at the Shuman Cemetery on Rt. 220 in Waldoboro with Pastor Harry Gomez officiating. Following the graveside service, friends and family will be gathering at the Church of Nazarene in Waldoboro for food and memories.
