Reginald J. Gagnon, 74, of Walpole, died Oct. 11 at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1934, to Charles and Catherine (Cyr) Gagnon of Waterville. After graduating from Waterville High School, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1962 and married Suzanne Koch the next year. They lived in North Reading, Mass. and Reg worked in Boston for the National Labor Relations Board. After retiring in 1991, he and Suzanne moved back to Maine and built their own house in Walpole. Reginald liked hunting and fishing, he traveled to Africa and Haiti, was an advocate for the poor and for peace in the world.
He is predeceased by his wife, Suzanne, who died May 27, 2007; brother, Alexander; sister, Lucille; parents and his adopted brothers, Leo, Laurier, and Reginald.
He is survived by his children, son, Thomas Gagnon and daughter-in-law Diane of Swampscott, Mass., daughter, Ruth Estabrook and son-in-law Jeff of Brunswick, and son Paul Gagnon of Walpole; grandchildren, Simon and Luke Estabrook and Sarah Gagnon; and sisters, Eva Russell of Waterville, Jeanne Esther Gagnon of Waterville and Odile Williams of Florida.
Calling hours 5-7 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 16 at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Funeral mass 11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 17 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
