Rev. David Withrow, 79, of Waldoboro, a longtime minister, died suddenly Jan. 15 at Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta.
Rev. Withrow was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Boston, Mass., the son of Rev. Ira F. and Rose Ruggles Withrow. He was a graduate of Drury High School in North Adams, Mass., and Zion Bible College in Barrington, R.I.
He began his ministry in 1952 and served churches in Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine, until his retirement in 2005. He also served as interim minister for several churches throughout Maine. While pastoring, he was also employed as a machinist with Bicknell Manufacturing in Rockland, retiring from there in 1990.
He was known for his handyman skills, which he freely gave to his family and in his ministry, and loved to fish, hunt, go camping, ride motorcycles, create wood carvings, and was remembered as one who always witnessed to everyone he met. Most important to him was the time he got to spend with his family and have family gatherings.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Wilson Withrow of Waldoboro; daughters, Sherill Creamer and husband Donald of Waldoboro and Carol Jervey and husband Rev. Allen of Rockland; grandchildren, Lisa Hunter and husband Ryan of Glade Springs, Va., Rebekah Stewart and husband Robert of Englewood Tenn., Allan Jervey and wife Tiffany Andrews of Staunton, Va., Sherill Jervey of Cleveland, Tenn., Brenda Maines and husband Thomas of Waterville, and Steven Creamer and wife Jana of Waldoboro; great-grandchildren, Emily and Colby Hunter of Glade Springs, Va., Gabriella and Anderson Maines of Waterville, and David Creamer of Waldoboro; and sisters, Ruth Wanamaker of Riverside, Cal. and Sylvia Anderson of Gig Harbor, Wash.
Celebration of Rev. Withrow’s life 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 19 at the North Waldoboro Nazarene Church. Spring interment will be in the German Cemetery, Waldoboro.
