Reva June “June” Poland, 61, of Bremen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, May 27 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta after a long battle with Progressive Supernuclear Palsy.
June was born June 21, 1947 in Marlow, Okla., the daughter of Eugene B and Annie Lucille Ezzell Smith, and is a graduate of Marlow High School, class of 1965.
She married Bruce Poland March 3, 1971.
After graduation, she held various jobs before finding her life’s calling, attending a CNA class and starting work at the Kanakuk Nursing Home in Duncan, Okla., where she worked until April of 1971, when she moved to Maine.
After raising her family, she returned to health care, starting at Cove’s Edge as a CNA. She became a certified med tech in 2002, and after 18 years with Miles Healthcare, retired due to her failing health.
June loved to read, crochet and was known for her excellent cooking, but most especially loved spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Cova Jean Smith.
Survivors include her husband Bruce Poland of Bremen; two sons, Scott Wayne Poland and wife Cheryl of Newcastle, and Justin Eugene Poland and fiancée Tiffani Avery of Houston, Tex.; daughter, Marcy Eileen Poland of Bremen; grandchildren, Marysa and Kylee Poland of Newcastle; brothers, Raymond Dale Smith, Arvel Smith and wife Debbie, and Marvin Smith and wife Dorothy; sisters, Reba Sue Smith, Sherry Littleton and Donna Balm, all of Marlow, Okla.; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
Celebration of June’s life 10 a.m., Sun., May 31 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Bremen, immediately following the service.
