Richard A. Genthner, 65, of Bremen, died June 18 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
Richard was born in Lewiston on June 25, 1946, the son of the late Elmer and Violet (Gilman) Genthner. He was a graduate of Pennell Institute of New Gloucester. Immediately following high school Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam until being honorably discharged.
Richard loved the outdoors. Whether it was lobstering on his boat, working in the woods, or tending to his garden, Richard simply loved being out in nature. He enjoyed working around the house, reading his daily paper, discussing politics and going out to eat with his family and friends.
Richard was a hard working man that was beloved by many.
Surviving Richard are his wife of 35 years, Carol (Caron) Genthner of Bremen; sons, Glenn Griffin and partner Jessica Olson of Waldoboro, Stephen Genthner and wife Traci of Damariscotta, William Genthner of No. Carolina, and Heath Genthner and wife Mary of Waldoboro; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Dawson and wife Becky of Bremen, Robert Genthner and wife Barbara of Nevada; and aunt, Merna Genthner; dear cousin, Beverly Tyler; and best friends, Scott Malone, Mike Reny and Mike Rosenthal.
At Richard’s request there will be no services. Richard considered himself a simple man of simple needs and would like everyone who loved, or knew him to spend a few minutes outside in his memory.
