Richard A. Pease, 85, of Leeds, passed away Feb. 18 at his home, following a long illness.
He was born April 15, 1921, in Leeds, the son of Alton Loring and Erna Mae (Richardson) Pease.
He attended school in Leeds and Monmouth Academy.
On Sept. 22, 1944, in Fort Smith, Ark., he married Clara Lewis of Newcastle.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater.
He worked for Bonifide Mills in Winthrop; he was also a self-employed chicken farmer, owner and president of Pease & Buckley Inc. of Leeds.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Richard was an avid train enthusiast, and loved flying small airplanes. One day while his family was on top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire, he flew around the mountain, without their knowing.
Grampa always loved a good game of checkers with his grandson, Brandon.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; son, Philip Pease and wife Lynn; daughters, Kathryn Cummings and husband Charles, Barbara Burnham and husband Robert, and Pamela Buckley and husband Hugh, all of Leeds; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Loring S. Pease of Dundee, Ill., and David Pease and wife Vickie of Sunnyvale, Tex.; sisters, Shirley F. Smith and husband Eugene of Leeds, and Virginia Krickler of Leeds; and also Richard’s dialysis family since March 2, 2003.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Wed., Feb. 21 at the Bragdon-Finely Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth; and during the visiting hours a Post Everlasting with members from the Monmouth and Winthrop Legions will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral service 1 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 22 at Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth.
Reception will be held at the home of Pam and Hugh Buckley, 104 Leeds Junction Rd., Leeds, following the service.
Interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St., Auburn.
