Richard Allen “Dickie” Kennedy, 62, passed away peacefully with his three children present with him on the evening of Jan. 8 in Damariscotta.
He was born April 27, 1952, in Waldoboro, the son of Guy C. Kennedy Jr. and Christine B. Eugley Kennedy, both of Waldoboro.
He spent his entire life in Waldoboro and was a lifelong clam digger, getting his state license at age 5. He graduated from Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball as a kid. Soon after graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Dale Bowden. They raised three children in Waldoboro.
Along with digging clams, Dickie also spent some years out on the bay as a lobsterman. He held many part-time jobs, such as selling seafood from his truck in Waldoboro, driving a seafood truck for Bill Loudon, working for the public works departments of Union and Waldoboro, and driving for JBI in Owls Head.
He enjoyed the great outdoors and could recount endless tales of hunting trips, snowmobiling adventures, and times out on the water and many other places with his friends. He also loved NASCAR; he always had a race on TV. As a younger man he did some drag racing and later entered truck pulls with his Ford pickup truck. He enjoyed life in Maine: Sunday drives with his family, attending lobster boat races, and going to the Windsor Fair for a plate of fries and maple ice cream. He was always a reliable resource on the current weather, road and traffic conditions, and news throughout the region, and he seemed to know most everybody, always had something to talk about, and wanted to know the word on the street. Dickie was also a pretty good cook.
He is predeceased by his parents; older brother, Harold Kennedy; and infant son.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Libby Miner and Paul Miner of Nobleboro; son, Benjamin Kennedy of Scarborough; daughter, Anna Kennedy of Rochester, N.Y.; grandson, Patrick Miner of Nobleboro; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, and fellow fishermen.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson. The family will place an announcement when it is scheduled.
Condolences can be forwarded to his home address.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mid Maine Cremation Services in Waterville.
