Richard I. Cunningham, 65, of Somerville, passed away Aug. 10 at his home after a valiant fight against cancer.
He was born June 29, 1943 in Damariscotta, a son of the late Maurice and Alice DeRosier Cunningham. Richard grew up in Nobleboro where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Lincoln Academy.
He worked as a carpenter, printer, and construction worker and drove trucks for Lanny Boggs, Bill Fraser and N.C. Hunt Lumber Company.
He was a member of the South Somerville Baptist Church. His greatest enjoyment was working in his flower gardens where he grew roses and lilies. He also enjoyed wood working and could be found making bowls and other things.
He was a NASCAR fan and loved restoring old vehicles.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Maurice, Jr., Donald, Paul and Cecil Cunningham.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Rand Cunningham of Somerville; step children, Sarah Thompson of Somerville, and Jason Daigneau of Chicester, N.H.; children, Lisa Wallace of Nobleboro and Dickie, Philip, Rainbow and Star Cunningham of the USA; grandchildren, Cody Wallace of Nobleboro, Ericka Smith of Nobleboro, Allen Smith of Somerville, Lily Thompson of Somerville, and Heather, Nicole and McKenzie Daigneau of Gilmanton, N.H., and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Wed., Aug. 13 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Celebration of his life 11 a.m., Thurs., Aug. 14 at Hall Funeral Home with Pastor John Dancer officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Somerville.
