Richard Eric Durgan, 56, of Woolwich, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 24. He was born in Bath on Aug. 1, 1957, the beloved son of Raymond and Jacqueline (Chubbuck) Durgan Sr. He grew up in Woolwich and attended Morse High School.
At the age of 18, Richard worked for the railroad and got to travel to many different places. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting and fishing were a passion of his. Richard was jack-of-all trades and a master of many. He was a very determined individual and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He tried his hand being a mechanic, a licensed mason and a lumberjack. He cleared a 40-acre lot single handedly, and it only took him two years, something he spoke of with pride.
Richard was an animal lover; his dogs were his best friends. He was always willing to give his heart to a furry friend.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Ira and Verena Durgan and Harvey and Marion Chubbuck.
Richard leaves behind his parents, Raymond and Jacqueline Durgan of Popham Beach; brothers, Raymond Durgan Jr. and wife Vivian of Daphne, Ala., and Michael Durgan and wife Natasha of San Diego, Cal.; sisters, Tammy Durgan of New Sharon, Heidi Durgan and fiancé Carl Schmidt of Henrico, Va., and Penny Durgan and partner Debbie Feegel of Nobleboro; nieces and nephews, Janielle Gray, Jeremy, Nicholas, Ari Durgan, all of Florida, Ashley and Audrey Baise, both of Virginia, and Logan and Jayd Durgan of California.
The family has requested that if you would like to make a memorial donation in Richard’s name to please send them to The Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
