Richard L. Stubbs, 61, of Wiscasset, died suddenly Jan. 21 at a local hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in Bangor on Aug. 14, 1945, the son of Winfield L. Sr. and Velma Tate Stubbs.
He attended local schools and graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1963. He went on to further his education and graduated from the Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass., class of 1966.
Following his graduation, he went to work at Bath Iron Works as a Lab Technician and Test Engineer, a position he held for 40 years; at BIW he performed chemical and metallurgical testing.
On Aug. 19, 1984, he married Laura Sproul and together they made their home in Wiscasset.
Richard was very active in both the community and at BIW. He was president of the BIW Rec. Association for 20 years, President-elect of Employee Services Management Association, and a Director of the BIW Five County Credit Union. He also served as Past Master of Lincoln Lodge in Wiscasset, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Maine in 1988, and a member of the Dunlop Commandery.
In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his cottage on Damariscotta Lake.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Perry M. Stubbs; and second wife, Patricia P. Stubbs in 1980.
He is survived by his current wife of 22 years; first wife, Carol Arnold of Bangor; daughter, Laurie A. Stubbs-Hammond and husband Randy of Palm Coast, Fla.; son, Paul R. and wife Rosa Stubbs of Redmond, Wash.; grandchildren, Kevin D. and James K. Stubbs of Redmond, Wash., and Danielle E. and India A. Stubbs-Hammond of Palm Coast, Fla.; brother, Winfield L. Stubbs Jr. of Auburn; aunt, Pauline Gustafson of Brooksville, Fla.; and many friends and co-workers.
Visiting hours 4-7 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 25 at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home 638 High St., Bath.
Funeral service 10 a.m., Fri., Jan. 26 at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in the spring.
