Richard Mansir Bragdon, 80, longtime resident of Birmingham, Ala., went to be with his Lord on Feb. 3.
Born in Gardiner, Richard was educated in the Gardiner school system – graduating from Gardiner High School in 1947. Following high school, Richard served in the U.S. Air Force as a draftsman. While serving in the Air Force, Richard was stationed at Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., where he met his future wife. Following his service to his country, Richard attended Auburn University where he majored in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Richard began a distinguished 36-year career at American Cast Iron Pipe Company in Birmingham, Ala., where he served on the Board of Management in his position as Vice President of Engineering.
Following his retirement from ACIPCO, Richard continued his wonderful hobby of woodworking. He also enjoyed spending each summer and fall back in the state of his birth – Maine. Richard and his wife Gerry were active members of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church where he led Bible studies and taught Sunday school.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Martha Mansir and Miles Archie Bragdon, and only son, David Lynn Bragdon.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gerry Pearson Bragdon, daughters, Becky Harbuck and husband Max and Linda Bragdon-Hall and husband Jeff of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Ryan Harbuck and wife Leighton of Huntsville, Ala., Garrett Harbuck and wife Martha of Birmingham, Ala., and Miles and Delia Bragdon-Hall of Birmingham, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Kathryn Rebecca Harbuck and Grace Ann Thrailkill of Birmingham, Ala.
Memorial service was held Feb. 7.
