Richard Walter Linscott, 87, of Appleton, passed away Nov. 24 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Born in Appleton on Feb. 26, 1919, Richard was the son of Lorenzo and Gladys Calderwood Linscott. He was educated in Appleton and was one of the five generations to work on the family dairy farm and in the woods.
On March 31, 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 443rd Anti Aircraft Battalion-APO #464 in the invasion of Africa, Italy and France during WWII. He received the Purple Heart and Silver Star.
After his war service, he returned to the family homestead and married Ariel Danforth on Oct. 13, 1945. Together they built their own home, which was next door to the family farm. In 1950 he built a dairy barn and retired from farming in 1988.
He puttered around on the farm and was known to be “Jack of all Trades.” He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially having cookouts and special family occasions.
Richard was a 70-year member of the Medomac Valley Grange and a member of the Washington V.F.W.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Ariel Danforth Linscott, of Appleton; daughters, Sharon Blake and husband James of Washington, Helen Grinnell and husband Edward, Jr. of Warren, and Marilyn Worcester and husband Rex of Winchester, N.H.; son, Lloyd Linscott and wife Beth of Appleton; sisters, Margaret Millay of Liberty, and Thelma Cooper of Rockland; grandchildren, Kathy Grinnell and Susan Simmons of Union, Ryan Worcester and Tara Buckley of Winchester, N.H., Shanna Castner of Washington, Darci Linscott of Bangor, and Lauren and Danica Linscott of Appleton; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Simmons of Union, Ryan Kellogg of Winchester, N.H., Alex and Jacob Worcester of Winchester, N.H., Gavin Castner of Washington, and Issac Buckley of Winchester, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of Richard’s life was held Nov. 26 at the Miller Cemetery in Appleton; the Rev. Robert Dorr officiated.
