Robert Alden (Bob) McRae, of Wiscasset, passed away suddenly on the evening of June 10. He was born in Bath on Jan. 13, 1936 to Rudolph C. McRae and Edna M. Burns McRae.
Bob began working for BIW in their apprenticeship program in 1958. In 1970, he became the self-employed owner of McRae’s Refrigeration Service. Bob returned to work for BIW in 1981 in the air conditioning and refrigeration field. He was the director of the Wiscasset Transfer Station from 1995 until his retirement.
Bob was a member of the Maine National Guard, the Bath Elks, Masons, a founding member and first director of the Wiscasset Ambulance Service, and served on the Wiscasset School Board. He was a founding member of the Saint Andrew’s Society of Maine and was very proud of his Scottish heritage. Bob enjoyed coin collecting, traveling across the country, yard sales and loved to cook.
Bob was predeceased by a brother, Richard McRae and sister, Eleanor Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Esther L. Bumps McRae; son, Peter R. McRae and wife Monique; daughter, Julie A. McRae Crowley and husband Patrick; stepdaughters, Wendy Waltz and husband David, and Tracy Runion and husband Eric; and grandchildren, Matthew McRae, Heather McRae, Joel Crowley and wife Stephanie, Kathryn Crowley, Tarra Huebler and David Runion.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond.
