Robert C. Andrews, Sr., 73, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Durham, passed away Sept. 8 due to a brief illness. He was born on July 19, 1936 in Lewiston, a son of Walter and Alice Andrews.
Best known as “Shorty,” he attended schools in New Gloucester, and started his career in construction with Lane Construction through which he met his wife, Marie E. Andrews. They were married for 51 years. Together they started their business Durham Paving Co. which they ran for several years. They then retired to Fort Myers, Fla. where he ran a small maintenance company, Robert Andrews Inc., until his passing.
Shorty’s best friend was his dog “Skipper.” He had a great love for Boston terriers. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and camping, and spending time with his family. Robert was well known for his knowledge of heavy equipment mechanics.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Walter Andrews, and mother, Alice Andrews; and sister, Rena Shaw of New Gloucester.
He is survived by his wife, Marie E. Andrews; son, Robert Andrews Jr. and wife Sonya of Durham; daughter, Holly Flagg and husband Brian of Nobleboro; grandchildren, Brandon Flagg and Allison Flagg of Nobleboro; and brothers, Philip Andrews and wife Dorothy of New Gloucester, and William Andrews and wife Sandra of Mechanic Falls.
Memorial service to be held at a later date to be announced.
