Robert C. Mason, 88, died peacefully in the early hours of April 22, at his home at Riverwoods of Exeter, N.H. He was born in Waterville on June 12, 1917. He was the son of the late Frank Henry and Anne Childs Mason. Mason Station of Wiscasset was named for his father, former Chief Engineer for Central Maine Power in Maine and New Hampshire. He spent his early years in Winthrop and Damariscotta Mills. Here he established a long relationship with St. Patrick’s Church, where he was an altar boy. He attended St. Johns Prep in Danvers, Mass., New Hampton School, N.H., and University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. Prior to WWII, he began his flying career with Eastern Air Lines. He started flying at the age of 16, and then flew for 37 years for Eastern Air Lines. Robert C. Mason moved to Exeter, N.H. in 1996, having spent the majority of his life in Hancock, N.H. and Greenwich, Conn. He loved his retreat time in Walpole and Christmas Cove every summer with his family. His interests included boating, art and antiques. He was a familiar face at area auctions. His lifelong enjoyment of finance established a keen knowledge that he constantly shared with family and friends with genuine interest and good humor. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Goodyear Mason of Exeter, N.H. and Christmas Cove; his four children, Shipley Childs Mason and wife Juliet Burley-Mason, of Newburyport, Mass., Ann Mason Sears and husband Herb of Exeter, N.H., George Taylor Mason and wife Susan Weiser Mason of Damariscotta Mills, and Thomas Jordan Mason and wife Talbot Welles of New Haven, Conn. Robert Mason shared great joy with his grandchildren, Gala True Miller, Charlotte Mason Poage, Hannah Sears, Mason Sears, Emily Sears, Zoe Mason, Aaron Mason, Charlie Mason, and Sam Mason and his two great-grandchildren, Maya Miller and Max Miller. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Richard. Mass Memorial at St. Patrick’s Church, Newcastle, 10 a.m., Sat., May 27. All are invited.
