Robert E. Hanley, 84, of Bristol, died Jan. 26 at Miles Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1925, he was the son of Ross and Mildred Hanley of Bristol.
While serving as a Marine in Okinawa, Bob was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After his convalescence and end of tour, Bob returned to Bristol, working as a mason with his father, Ross. Later Bob established his own earth construction business, currently known as Hanley Construction, which has actively served the Lincoln County area for over 50 years.
Bob was a member of the Masons, the Lions Club and Odd Fellows.
Robert was predeceased by his son, Scott Hanley, brothers, John and Oscar Hanley; and most of his friends, having outlived them by a number of years.
Bob is survived by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Ruby; sister, Charlotte Simmons and her family; daughter, Jewel Hanley and her children, Alison Lee and Megan Drake; son, Mark Hanley and his son, Stewart Hanley; and four great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Bob’s life 2 p.m., Sat., Jan. 30 at the Bristol Mills Congregational Church. Reception to follow at the Samoset Restaurant in New Harbor.
