Robert E. Sutter, 75, of Wiscasset, passed away April 16 at Maine Medical Center.
Born in Damariscotta on Dec. 5, 1939, he was the eldest son of Robert H. Sutter and Cora May Sutter. Bob attended Wiscasset schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. In 1966 he married Ann Tilton.
Bob was in the construction business for his entire career, working for his uncle, Forrest “Pat” Johnson, after high school on his farm and small construction business prior to entering the Army. After discharge from the Army he started his own construction business (Sutter Construction), which he then operated until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of the Bradford-Sortwell-Wright American Legion Post 54 for many years, serving in various positions including commander, vice commander and treasurer.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and working in his vegetable garden.
Bob was predeceased by his mother, Cora in 1952; step-mother, Velma I. Sutter in 1985; father, Robert H. in 2004; and sister, Ruth E. Ives in 2006.
Survivors include his sons, Gregory S. Sutter and partner Amy Lewis of Wiscasset, and Brent R. and wife Karin K. Sutter of Sherborn, Mass.; former wife, Ann Tilton Sutter of Boothbay Harbor; brothers, William C. and wife Judith A. Sutter, and Scott A. and wife Dawn Sutter of Wiscasset; and grandchildren, Ben, Samantha, Eric and Henry.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Sun., June 14 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath with Rev. Robert E. Ives of Pemaquid officiating.
