Robert Ernest St. Pierre, 75, of New Harbor, formerly of Franklin, N.H., passed away on the evening of Jan. 9. Born in Franklin, N.H. on Dec. 13, 1936, he was the son of Ernest Octave and Gracia (Leger) St. Pierre. Bob was unable to conquer depression.
Bob attended St. Mary School and graduated from Franklin High School, Class of 1954. He also attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick. Following college studies, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 10 years as a cartographer and field trainer. In 1963, Bob was part of the Army guard protecting an elementary school girl walking alone into her new school in Selma, Ala. While in Franklin, he worked as a chef at Neil’s Restaurant for 32 years.
Bob was a quiet man with many talents. He had a passion for photography, cooking and restoring furniture. Bob enjoyed painting pictures from memories of recent local travels and publicly displayed much of his artwork and photographs at exhibits in the Damariscotta area. He photographed the Jake Day window dioramas as community members repaired them. Bob was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.
Bob was “at home” with nature. Every day of the year, backyard birds were fed and watered. With interest and appreciation, Bob explored the woods, hiking trails, the sea, lakes and canyons, waterfalls and riverbeds, the sun, moon and stars.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce (Johnson) St. Pierre whom he married on his 50th birthday; Joyce’s daughters, Jennifer Mitchell of Sunnyvale, Cal., and Faith Levesque of Nottingham, N.H.; brothers, Frank J. St. Pierre of Lincoln, R.I., and Leo St. Pierre of Franklin, N.H.; sisters, Pauline I. Beaupre of Biloxi, Miss., RoseMarie Chandonnet of Franklin, N.H., and Alma T. Andrews of Boscawen, N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 14 at St. Paul’s Church in Franklin, N.H. Robert will be laid to rest with his parents in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin, N.H. in the spring.
