Robert G. Fox, 79, of Nobleboro, passed away Nov. 17 at the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Born in Philadelphia on June 20, 1930, he was the son of Ernest and Matilda (Bacon) Fox.
Robert grew up in Clayton, N.J. attending and graduating from schools there. Shortly after high school he went to work for the Clayton Post Office. He had a brief hiatus from the post office while he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force he went back to work for the postal service.
Robert started as a mail carrier, but retired from a 37-year career with the postal service having served the town as Postmaster for over 14 of those years. Together with his wife, Patricia (Maloney) Fox they lived and raised their two sons in Pitman, N.J. Upon his retirement, he and Patricia moved to Nobleboro. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past April.
Robert had a life-long love for airplanes, and actually flew a plane before he drove a car. He started flying planes when he was just 16 years old and continued flying until 67, when he gave it up due to health concerns.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as two brothers, Ernest G. Fox and George W. Fox.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Fox of Nobleboro; sons, Robert S. Fox and wife Grace of Blackwood, N.J., and Steven G. Fox of Mantua, N.J.; grandchildren, Robert S. Fox, Jr. and Jessica M. Fox, both of Blackwood, N.J.; as well as several nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Wayne G. Fox and wife Colette of Belle Mead, N.J.
Private graveside service will be held in New Jersey at a later date.
