Robert Glen Soper, 43, of Waldoboro, passed away at his home on March 31. He was born in Lewiston on July 6, 1969, the son of the late Harold and Flora Soper.
He grew up in Lewiston and attended local schools and went to Lewiston High School. After high school he began his work in the construction field with his father. His father passed on many valuable tools of the trade to his son, tools that he would use throughout his career. He met Heather May 7, 1993 and the two would move to Waldoboro in October of that same year. He would start his own business Hometec and he would begin building their home in Waldoboro and finished in December of 1994. He and Heather married Feb. 15, 1995 and the two made their home at the house he built. They raised their family in Waldoboro.
Bob loved to hunt, fish, and trap; any excuse he had to be outdoors he would take it. He loved coaching kids and would coach every one of his kids’ teams no matter the sport. He truly loved being on the sidelines, or in the dugout.
He was a true coach, he wanted to pass along his knowledge to his players. If they were unsure of certain techniques, he would guide them and help them with each step of the process. He looked at coaching as an opportunity to help build the kids’ confidence. He loved baseball and this showed, as he would coach from tee ball, to Little League, and up through Babe Ruth. There was one year that there was no one that could help him take the team to the State Championship for Babe Ruth so he piled the entire team, all ten of them, into his camper and make the trek with them to the tournament where they would stay the week.
He loved his family and was very involved in all of their activities and would do whatever it took to make sure he was in attendance. He may not have been the loudest person in the audience but his kids knew they could count on him to be there. He instilled into his children many life lessons that they will be able to use throughout their lives.
He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Flora Soper; and brother, Norman Child.
Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Heather Soper of Waldoboro; daughter, Kelsey Court and husband Kevin of Waldoboro; sons, Brandon Soper of Waldoboro, and Channing Soper of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Alyse and Aubrey Court of Waldoboro; loving in-laws, Phillip and Sandra Sukeforth; brothers, Bruce Soper and wife Liz of Auburn, Harold Soper Jr. of Lewiston, and Donald Soper of Auburn; sisters, Susan Bowden and husband Steve of Lewiston, Clarissa Collins of Auburn, and Linda Leveque and husband Bob of Poland; and lifelong best friends, Dana Pride of Sabattus and Scott Metayer of Virginia.
