Robert J. “Bob” Ferrier, 95, of Jefferson, died May 17 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Paterson, N.J. on Nov. 18, 1916, a son of the late George W. and Eugenie (Tice) Ferrier.
He was a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School in New Jersey, class of 1934, and Trenton State College, class of 1939. Later, he received his Master’s Degree in Administration, Industrial Arts, and Vocational Education from Rutgers University. Bob was a teacher in New Jersey for over 30 years, retiring in 1974 after 22 years in the Pompton Lakes school system. A number of his former students kept in touch with him for more than 50 years – testimony to the positive impact he had made on them.
Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941, Bob served in the European Theater during WWII, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.
After moving to Maine in 1974, Bob became an active member of St. Giles’ Episcopal Church in Jefferson, and last year, the church presented him with an engraved plaque of appreciation for his decades of service. He was also active in the Young at Heart Senior Citizens group and the Kennebec Valley Beagle Club.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Emily D. (Cranch) Ferrier; and sister, Eugenie Van Dyke.
He is survived by daughters, Lucy Norman and husband Don and Genie Dailey and husband Jim, all of Jefferson; brother-in-law, Edmund T. Cranch and wife Virginia; as well as two nieces and two nephews.
Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thurs., May 24 at Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Rd. (Rt. 32), Windsor. Funeral service 1 p.m., Fri., May 25 at St. Giles’ Church, 72 Gardiner Rd. (Rt. 126), Jefferson. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Highland Cemetery, also on Gardiner Road in Jefferson.
