Robert James Lewis, 65, of Warren, died peacefully March 15 in his home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on May 20, 1944 in Natick, Mass., a son of the late James Lewis Jr. and Helen (Kopp) Allen.
Bob joined the Navy in 1961 where he served his country honorably until May of 1965. Bob married and had three daughters and moved back to the place he loved, Maine, where he had spent the summers of his childhood with his grandparents James and Margaret Lewis of Thomaston. Bob retired from the Maine State Prison as a guard in 1995.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge of Natick, Mass. He loved being in the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time “up to camp” with his good friend Jamie Steeves. Bob also enjoyed spending numerous summers on the water with his good friend Gail Russ. One of Bob’s favorite things to do was watch his granddaughters and their friends play softball.
Bob is survived by three daughters, Margaret “Jimi” Hunt and husband Eric of Waldoboro, Pamela Barker and husband Rod of Wilton, and Patricia Anderson of Texas; granddaughters, Ashley and Danielle Hunt, Jessica DeCastro, Sara Henderson, and Caroline Iskerka, grandsons; Daniel, Sean and Kevin Moore; sisters, Dorothy Norcross and husband Bob of Newton, Mass., and Judy Carmody and husband Michael of Hopkinton, Mass.; and several special nieces and nephews.
Celebration of his life will be held in late spring with friends and family.
