Robert John Westbye, Sr., 74, of Dresden, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 30.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1933, in Staten Island, N.Y., to John W. and Hildur Westbye.
He graduated from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va. with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1955. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 until he was honorably discharged in 1957. He later graduated from West Virginia, School of Law, in Morgantown, W.Va. in 1960 with a Conferred Doctorate of Law degree.
Robert was a partner in the law firm of Weber, Muth & Weber, Esqs. in Ramsey, N.J., from 1960-1980, a municipal court judge for the borough of Montvale, N.J., and he had a private law practice in Point Pleasant, N.J. from 1980-1984, until he and his family moved to Maine. Robert worked at Bath Iron Works as a Contract Specialist of the DDG 51 guided missile destroyer from 1986-1987, he was a Maine licensed associate real estate broker from 1987-1990, and he co-owned, with his wife Marilyn, Sunshine House Cleaning Service from 1990-2005.
Robert was admitted to practice before the following courts: U.S. Supreme Court, New Jersey Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Appeals in West Virginia, Monongalia County Circuit Court of Appeals, West Virginia, Federal District Court of New Jersey, and Federal District Court of West Virginia.
He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and bird watcher.
Robert married Marilyn J. (Cokefair) Westbye in 1966 and they had two children, Robert J. Westbye Jr., and a daughter, Meredith J. Keene.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Dresden; son, Robert Jr., and girlfriend Jessica Labrecque of Auburn; daughter, Meredith Keene and husband Timothy of Topsham; sister in Vermont; brother in Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of his life 3 p.m., Fri., Dec. 7 at the First Baptist Church, Middle Rd., Woolwich.
