Robert L. “Bob” Goodrich, 76, of Damariscotta, died Dec. 17 at the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath after a period of failing health.
Bob was born Oct. 14, 1934 in Somerville, Mass., the son of Louis and Margaret Goodrich, and is a graduate of Somerville High School, and attended Gordon College in Wenham, Mass.
He was employed with Polaroid as a machinist, retiring in 1980 after 21 years with the company.
Having vacationed in the Damariscotta area as a child, he and his wife Jeannette “Jan” moved here soon after retirement, where he quickly became a part of the community. Bob was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Waldoboro, where he exemplified his Christ’s love by participating in many Bible fellowships, assisted in building the parsonage at the Waldoboro Word of Life Church, brought bread from local bakers to families that were in need, and always looked for an opportunity to share his life skills and knowledge with others.
Bob also loved to spend time in his workshop, using his woodworking tools and making jewelry, and sailing on any type of sailboat he could get on.
Bob is predeceased by a son, Dale Goodrich.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years Jeannette Goodrich of Damariscotta; children, Diane Labenski of Wappinger Falls, N.Y., Deborah Tansino of Wallingford, Conn., Elena Bleakley of Lexington, Mass., David Goodrich, Darrell Goodrich, Debra Goodrich, all of Somerville, Mass.; sister Dorothy; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
