Robert L. Streng, 83, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away July 17 in Boothbay Harbor, his home for the past 39 years. He was born Oct. 21, 1927 in Whitestone, N.Y.
Bob led a very full life which included joining the U.S. Navy at age 17 to serve his country during WWII. Upon his return, he joined the New York Police Department where he served for 22 years and was decorated on four occasions. After retiring from the NYPD, Bob relocated to Boothbay Harbor where he served as the town’s first sergeant of the Boothbay Harbor Police department from 1973 to 1975 and then went on to work at the Lincoln County Courthouse and finally Maine Yankee.
Along the way Bob learned and excelled at skiing, sailing, flying light planes, hunting, trap and skeet shooting and always having a good time! Never one to decline a cocktail, cigar or a request from a pretty lady, Bob enjoyed his final days gazing at the view from his home.
Bob leaves behind his sons, Richard and Keith, both of New York; beloved granddaughter Nascha; Keith’s wife Anne; his Boothbay Harbor family, Dana and Cathy Hodgdon; niece, Sally Jane Freelander; and grand nephew, Ben.
At Bob’s request no funeral will be held. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
