Robert R. Taylor, 65, of Wiscasset, formerly of Madison, died Jan. 17, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with diabetes and heart disease.
He was born in Canton on June 19, 1941, a son of Robert and Eva York Taylor. He was educated in Canton schools.
Mr. Taylor worked at the Cannery in Canton and as a hand stitcher at Bass Shoe in Wilton. He managed the Citgo station in Madison from 1970 to the mid 1980’s. He later moved to the Wiscasset area and worked in the maintenance department at Bath Iron Works, taking early retirement due to illness.
His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, Taylor’s Raiders ball team in Madison, and visiting family and friends. He enjoyed fairs and horse racing, was an avid sports fan, and he especially enjoyed attending his sister’s annual pig roast.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Taylor; mother, Eva Taylor; infant son; and sister, Jeanette Bowie.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Taylor and wife Kelly of Madison; daughter, Amy Lawrence and husband Steven of Madison; brother, Harry Taylor and wife Dell of Middleburg, Fla.; sister, Roberta Olson and husband Ernie of Auburn; step-sister, Marie Canwell of Auburn; three grandchildren, Courtney Taylor, Bradley Taylor, and Dylan Griffith, all of Madison; many nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion and care-giver, Darlene Colby of Wiscasset.
Visitation 3-4 p.m., Sat., Jan. 20 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay, followed by his funeral at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Wallace E. Staples officiating.
Interment will be held in the spring at Canton.
