Robert Russell Burnham, 82, of Waldoboro, died July 24 from complications of lung cancer at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1928 in Waldoboro to Elmer and Marguerite Reed Burnham. Bob grew up in Waldoboro and attended local schools.
He worked at Paragon Button Factory in Waldoboro, Sample’s Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor and as a carpenter with his father. He later worked at G.T.E. Sylvania for over 26 years. At the same time he also ran his own construction company, slaughter shop and radiator business.
He worked for the CETA program and at B.I.W. for over 26 years. He also ran Burnham Farms Greenhouse and Burnham’s Bloomers in Waldoboro. He grew peas, squash and carrots for Moody’s Diner as well as cleaning the diner at night. He loved doing projects around the farm. There wasn’t anything he didn’t know how to fix. He loved gardening and spending time with his family and family vacations. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Arianna, aka “Weenie.”
Bob is predeceased by his parents; sister, Evelyn Bailey; grandson, Jason Barter; niece, Tammy Luce; and nephew, Wayne Burnham.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dianne McLain Burnham of Waldoboro; daughters, Elizabeth Robinson and husband Dustin of Waldoboro and Sharon Barter and husband Gary of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Rob Barter and wife Lorielle of Waldoboro, Catherina and Carter Robinson, both of Waldoboro, Kaitlin and Gabe Barter of Boothbay, and Dylan and Lacey Barter of Waldoboro; sister, Marlene Luce and husband Irville of Waldoboro; brother, David Burnham and wife Marlene of Waldoboro; brother-in-law, Willard Bailey of Whitefield; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved pet, Arianna aka “Weenie.”
Graveside service 1 p.m., Wed., July 27 at Riverside Cemetery, Rt. 32, Waldoboro. Rev. Robert Bellows will officiate.
